Fishing and Environmental Considerations
Posted by Nobody on 17 October 2018
We are all very glad we live in a country where we can fish from boats, beaches and rocks. Our seas are beautiful and rich and it is our responsibility to look after them for the benefit of ourselves and future generations. So as a responsible Fishing Club we thought it would good to remind ourselves how we can help. Here's a few things we can do whilst out fishing.
- Minimise any tackle losses by using best fishing practice, skippers and venue experienced anglers are always willing to advise, e.g. don't cross lines, wind up when skipper says, use correct weights.
- Always always always remove any litter you create or find, especially plastics such as lines, beads, floats etc.
- Don't be afraid to mention it if you find someone littering, a gentle reminder is all that's needed.
- We all like to have a fish for the table but don't catch more than you need, practice catch and release whenever possible, don't take under size or breeding quality fish. Obviously sometimes fish can't be returned so if you don't need it offer it to someone who is catching less.
- Despatch fish in a quick and humane way, don't leave them gasping in a bucket for unnecessary lengths of time and of course return all fish gently back to the sea.
We are sure members will have other good tips and guidelines so feel free to let us all know about them.
Enjoy our fantastic environment and tight lines!
